May 2007

3 Years

My little guy turned 3 last week! 3 seems so big, so not like a baby anymore, although he was ill yesterday  and I got my baby back for the day, I don't even know how I'll handle 4.

I always like to have a nice setup of all his presents, so that he can be super excited when he wakes up. Here is his, "Oh wow what's that" picture:

He loved the wooden food, shopping cart, and cash register from grandma:

I gave him an awesome spider man big wheel but I'm pretty sure he hates it. His gift from Aunt Sissy keeps him super entertained

But I have a feeling that Grandpas gift , when it is finished, will be his favorite.

Mother and Child Reunion

I think I should be able to pull off this project (Amy Butler-The Nappy Bag) in my sleep by now, I think this is the 12th one I've made....so far.

I had a challenge: making killer whales look cute and like they belong on a diaper bag, I don't know if this sounds easy to anyone but it was difficult for me. I looked at tons of pics online before I decided that it would work best with applique, and you can't get cuter than polka dot right?

It was requested that the bag be blue but nothing was really working with the black so I found this *amazing* vintage sheet in my stash and I thought it had enough blue in it and it had black in it. The stripes, another vintage sheet, was the perfect compliment to the floral. Again I sandwiched batting instead of canvas.

I used my own pattern for the changing pad and after a little brainstormng I decided I could quilt it using the honeycomb stitch on my machine. I sandwiched batting between the floral and some plain white sheeting, quilted it, and then attached the super soft terrycloth (a luxurious bath towel from the clearance section of tj maxx). I used vintage ribbon and a big vintage button, it rolls up and fits in the bag perfectly!

All in all a success! Killer whales cute, who new?

My mom got the best present on mother's day, she graduated summa cum laude!!!

I think Tony is the most proud, he kept yelling, "that's MY grandma" throughout the ceremony while looking through binoculars.

I would be blogging more but the weather has been perfect. Perfect hanging out, sidewalk chalk, cloud gazing, rock sifting, and bike riding weather.
