I have been filled with dread and excitement about the new Harry Potter, dread because it's the end and excitement to have my questions answered. I was so careful to keep anything from spoiling it for me and was hesitant to read this article but rejoiced afterwards. It perfectly describes the way I feel as an HP fan. I wasn't even that pumped about movie #5 because it was just another check on my calender until the book came out. I was less pumped after the movie because let's face it they butchered book #5. Finally last friday I waited in line to get the book at midnight and went straight home and dug right in. I tried to read as slowly as possible because I knew that when it was done, all would be done. I made it until 11:00 a.m. sunday. I'm still depressed that it's over, I want more. Since then I have been stalking all things HP, I went out and bought the audiobook today because I knew it would take forever to get at the library, I ordered the 3 hardbacks I don't have, and I ordered the 2 cd's I don't have by these guys, but I don't think any of it will really make me feel better. I know people think it's kinda lame to love HP but I discovered him, thanks to someone's little brother, at a time when I was really lonely, living away from my family and friends and just needed somewhere to escape. For the past 6 years it has been alot of fun waiting for the last 3 books and watching the movies and reading the books over and over. HP also gave me and my sister something that is just ours, something to fill hours talking about and trying to figure out. I guess if loving HP makes you lame than stephen king and I are super lame :)
One of my lovely friends used her computer savvy to design my logo, I can't post it because of my lack of computer savvy, and in exchange I made this bag for her to gift to someone else. I made it with a flat bottom because it will be used to cart toys back and forth. It was my first time with this technique and it took a while to wrap my brain around it, but I think it came out all right.
We are just one tunnel and one "birdsnest" away from completing the fort. By "we" I mean Boseph because he's the one building it! It's the best fort ever, Tony is particularly fond of the swing set. It's the perfect hangout for a big boy like him who can dress himself. Ninety Degrees? lets go with transformer underoos and thomas snowboots.
So I'm not backing out on my promise to be more post-y, I just have to work this week which means I'm living at someone elses house and taking care of them this week. Only minimal crafting going on in the evenings and I'll post about it next week.
Let me just leave you with this: if Waitress is playing anywhere near you, a 6-hour drive isn't too much to ask, SEE IT. It is the best movie I have seen since Stranger Than Fiction. I loved it som much I didn't even care that it was playing at our "cheap seats" that usually makes you want to bathe when you leave. I didn't even mind that an elderly lady stood up brushing my left cheek with her entire backside and then let one rip right on my face. It was that good.
Okay I totally minded about that last part but I got a pretty good story out of it right?
Look for posts next week!
I've been keeping my fabric in plastic bins for as long as I can remeber and it just wasn't working out. I couldn't see my wonderful stash! After seeing some great ideas on other blogs, my dad picked this shelf up for me at target. Now I can stand back and check out what I have!
I also had to keep all my great sewing books (and the rest of my books) in boxes because every time I got a bookshelf it was taken over by Tony's books or movies. But thanks to my dad and sister I now have my very own bookshelf!
and a place to display some of my beloved tchochkes!
My little boy loves music. I think he might be a good singer, or at least have an ear for it, because when I sing he yells "stop singing" or, "stop trying". He's always loved to put on the headphones and rock out or dance to the stereo and now he's become a song writer. He was listening to some Tegan and Sara and added his own lyrics.
"I've got a grandma
and a sissy
and a daddy
and a mommy
I got a grandma
and a sissy
I got a grandma
and a sissy
I got a grandma
and a sissy"
You'll notice mommy and daddy were ommitted after the first part!
I think I'll use this story when Rolling Stone interviews "the mother of the famous musician"
SIDENOTE: Some of Tony's fave CD's are John Lithgow's Singing in The Bathtub, Cars Soundtrack, and The Johnny Cash Children's Album (Thank you Meggy for those last 2!!!) He also likes most of mommy's music. I'm most excited about the 2 Amy LaVere albums I ordered, I heard her playing live and being interviewed on NPR at 11:00 on Tuesday night and ran in and ordered her CD's. Amazing.
My little man loves to play chef, he likes to make everyone a little something to eat at his wooden kitchen. He loves to chop up his wooden food, it's put together with velcro so that when you cut it with the wooden knife it makes the most excellent chopping noises! But his wooden eggs frustrate him-they don't crack open! Appalling! I've been keeping my eyes open for the plastic ones that my friend Hannah had when we were little, does anyone remember the ones they had a hinge on one side and rubber eggs inside? You could have sunny side up or scrambled! Anyway, after having no luck on my search, I decided to make sunny-side up eggs out of some scraps of fleece.
He seems to dig it, I misjudged how small his pan is so he can only cook one at time.
This is the first one I made, it's super huge and a little less "egg" looking than the other one.
But this one is just right.
Next up some bacon, and scrambled eggs. I'm not really sure how I'm gonna do the scrambled eggs-maybe crochet.
My lovely friend Deb is my sales-lady, she showed off my blog and, the also lovely, Christy ordered some stockings from me. I always like to get a little comission work, when something isn't my style and I work with a customer to get it just right, I feel like I have expanded my horizons a little bit.
She wanted six christmas stockings in the patchwork style I used before, but with traditional christmas fabrics. Here is the result of our collaboration:
