The Perfect Way to Start Your Day

My Bible/Health teacher in high school told us, during health class, that eating anything for breakfast is better than eating nothing for breakfast and that her daughter always had beef vegetable soup for breakfast. I'm glad I remember something from health class so that when my son asks for broccolli and hot dogs for breakfast I'm not freaked out. He usually eats his hot dogs straight up right out of the fridge, "Mom, I want a hot dog. Cold." Today though he opted to have it heated up. He also had his grandma steam him some broccolli. He seemed satisfied and all around pumped about this meal.

Thriftin CO. Finds

So I did find some pretty good crafty thrift store treasures in the big CO.

I'm most pumped about these:

Coloradofinds2

I found these beauties at an ARC thriftstore. Terrycloth trains and lemons!!!! My blood pumps faster just thinking about it. I think the trains will be a little bathrobe for my fave guy and I'm thinking about a lemony terrycloth hoodie for myself

Bbwjacket

I also found this choice hankie to re-craft into something else

Coloradofinds1

I found this at the painfully hot flea market and I thought it said "Holla"  which I found really funny but after getting home I realized it said hello, which goes to show you that it was so hot I was hallucinating or I had sweat in my eyes

YAY!!! My quilt is finished! I looove it, Thanks mom and dad for getting it quilted. I was really wanted something bright and cheerful to make me feel summer/springy during the winter and I think this will do just fine. Although now that I think about white might not have been the smartest choice but oh well. Now I just need a significant other to sit on it with me at the drive-in movies, or eat hotdogs on it at the beach, and other quilty 1950's type things, I'm thinking this guy:

Today is my Birthday - No. 24

Day17

Day14_2

I headed out to Colorado last weekend to celebrate my birthday a little early this year. I was really missing my friends and so it was the best birthday present ever. I was hoping I would fall in love with the area so that I would want to move there, but no such luck. It's a nice place but not my style, my heart belongs to the east coast. On my 16th birthday (8 years ago whew that makes me feel a little old) my parents took me to NYC for my dream vacation. I ate Gray's Papaya hotdogs, saw The Lion King on Broadway and spent an eternity staring at FIT dreaming about getting to go to school there. I decided that someday I would live in New England and I don't think I've ever wanted to live anywhere else. But my best buds are in Colorado so a big chunk of my heart is there as well, and the hot dogs aren't bad either. Click on the thumbnails to see the pictures!!!

Day12 Day14 Day15

On the morning of my second day there Ashley and I stopped at the Mile High Flea Market across the street from my hotel. We had big dreams of vintage goods but it was mostly creepy lingerie and cheap knockoffs but I did get Tony some sweet Transformers t-shirts. It was hotter than the surface of the sun which forced us to buy some pretty awesome head gear and Ashley picked up some sunglasses from a lady with Ghostbuster slime fingernails. We made up for the lack of treasures by thrift shopping away the rest of the day and finding some pretty excellent cassettes for my sweet Taurus. Salt-n-Peppa and Tone Loc became the sound track for the rest of my vacation.

We met up with my friend Hannah and I got to meet her new boyfriend for the first time, while Hannah was trying to hail a cab outside of Rock Bar this random dude snuck in the picture and then asked me to take a picture of him "lookin' sensitive"

Day34 Day36_2 Day35

The rest of my little vacation was spent celebrating my birthday. mmm carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! On my last day in town we ate at Paris on the Platte yum! and went to the Tattered Cover book store.

Day31 Day32 Day42_2

The whole trip was awesome, it was like Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey except that my robot clone from the future didn't kill me and I didn't have to escape from hell and save the world by competing in the battle of the bands...

Poot's Dreamy Orange Cake With Cream Cheese Frosting

Did you know that you can add half a box of Jell-O to white cake mix and make it the flavor of the Jell-O? Well you can and it is awesome! I found this really weird Jell-O cookbook at a thrift store awhile ago called "The Magic of Jell-O" it has a magician on the front magicking up some Jell-O, pretty sweet. Tony and I decided it was time for an orange cake so here is our recipe:

Half a box of orange Jell-O (about 4 tbs.)

6 drops of Orange Oil

One box WHITE cake mix

Follow the directions on the back of the cake mix box and add the Jell-O and Orange Oil, bake as directed.

We just used a can of cream cheese frosting 'cause it was late and we didn't feel like making our own but if you do just use a standard powder sugar recipe and add the rest of the Jell-O.

For Hedwig

My sis and I have been enjoying the Harry and the Potters Cd's so much lately that when we heard they were gonna be playing near by we were pumped. So I needed a new shirt:

Owlshirt2

I used the old stand-bye Built By Wendy pattern # 3835 because when it works it works. I sketched my design with a water soluble white fabric pencil and machine embroidered it. I don't actually have a embroidery machine so I just used my top stitch and went over it a few times. I used iron on letters to write "Eeylops Owl Emporium". In hindsight I wish I had used Gothic letters, taken Tony to the concert because he loves Harry and the Potters (even though he calls them the giant spiders), and got my dance on. We are definitely taking him the next time they come around because he knows how to get down.
