3PO

Dsc02560

After a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry to see the Star Wars exhibit Tony has had Star Wars mania. It is mostly centered on r2d2 and C3PO (or 3PO as he calls him). He also discovered the Star Wars Mr. Potato Heads on YouTube which added fuel to the fire.

His excitement got me excited and when I get excited I feel like being crafty, so this shirt was born. I found this image in a book on antiques that my friend Meggy gave me and just printed it out on transfer sheets for dark fabric. Cutting it out took the longest but it was worth it. It is in heavy wardrobe rotation and he likes telling people "My mommy made this" which make me a little red in the face but proud.

Super-Fad

Alright so this sweatshirt is just as wrinkly as the quilt I posted yesterday but that's just because I had it folded up in a box waiting to go to a friends house for months and thought I'd better get a picture of it before I sent it, not because I'm a slob.

So, my favorite scene in Superbad is the opening credits where the silhouettes dance. As soon as I saw it I wanted to make freezer paper stencils. I thought I could just push the print screen button when I was watching the movie but that didn't work so I traced it right off the screen and then blew them up with the copy machine.

For Christmas I made and gave four of these sweatshirts and they were well received.

A Quilt for Nay-Nay

I wanted to give my mom something crafty but useful for Christmas this year. She's not a sentimental lady so gift giving can be tough. The plaid is her pop's old bathrobe and I have a picture she drew of him in my craft room so I blew it up and embroidered it on some white flannel. It makes for a perfect lounging quilt when watching movies on the couch. It gets used daily so you'll have to excuse it's wrinkly-ness.

I bought the pattern ages ago and was super excited about it, but it got put in a stack of other patterns and was soon forgotten. But when it was time to start Christmas crafting I remembered that I wanted to make this for Tony. He's super into robots so this was a fun project and I'm in love with the color combination. But beacause he doesn't transform he hasn't been a favorite, oh well I still love him.

Birthday Mail

I sold my first library bag (YAY!!!) to the lovely Carra for her lovely Adele. I sent some goodies with the bag for the birthday girl. I found the amazing vintage snowsuit at an estate sale a while back and was just hoping to find a little girl who could wear it. It still has the tags! I also found the mushroom dress at Vintage Baby I love the colors and the fabric. Of course I had to include a book, one of my all time faves The Little House. If you haven't read it you must, it is beautifully written with amazing illustrations.

Thank You Carra!

YAY!!! My quilt is finished! I looove it, Thanks mom and dad for getting it quilted. I was really wanted something bright and cheerful to make me feel summer/springy during the winter and I think this will do just fine. Although now that I think about white might not have been the smartest choice but oh well. Now I just need a significant other to sit on it with me at the drive-in movies, or eat hotdogs on it at the beach, and other quilty 1950's type things, I'm thinking this guy:

For Hedwig

My sis and I have been enjoying the Harry and the Potters Cd's so much lately that when we heard they were gonna be playing near by we were pumped. So I needed a new shirt:

Owlshirt2

I used the old stand-bye Built By Wendy pattern # 3835 because when it works it works. I sketched my design with a water soluble white fabric pencil and machine embroidered it. I don't actually have a embroidery machine so I just used my top stitch and went over it a few times. I used iron on letters to write "Eeylops Owl Emporium". In hindsight I wish I had used Gothic letters, taken Tony to the concert because he loves Harry and the Potters (even though he calls them the giant spiders), and got my dance on. We are definitely taking him the next time they come around because he knows how to get down.

A present for me

I saw a quilt in a box kit at the fabric store that was super ugly but I was digging the patchwork design. I cam home and thought I could recreate it with no problem but I have poor math skills and definitely underestimated this. Almost an entire pad of graph paper later I had it. Technically this started out as a nap quilt for Tony and I stole it. The apple/pear fabric makes me super happy and the pink was a little to girly. I added some super soft white cotton and wala! queen size. I'm super pumped that in a short amount of time I'll be sleeping under this! I definitely cannot handle quilting this on my machine so my mom is having it quilted for me for my birthday! YAY!!!

SIDE-NOTE: Check out my picture to the left, it's from my amazing unicorn birthday party Ashley P. threw me last year. It's my birthday face. This time I'm bringing the party to her.

This things a monster and every little gush of wind had it whipping around. Not a very easy subject to photograph. I have to say a special thanks to Tony for letting me use his clubhouse.

Ashley M.'s Nappy Bag

It's always nice to get a compliment, and as a crafter there is no greater compliment than someone wanting you to make them something. Ashley M. e-mailed back as a friend of a friend who had bought a Nappy bag I made and asked to buy one when the baby came. I think she's due soon so hopefully this makes it on time. Collaborating over the internet can be tough sometimes but I hope she likes this,  her only specifics were reds and golds for the fabrics and owls, these kinda birds, or chicks for the embroidery. I went with chicks, I hope it is obvious what they are! This is the Amy Butler Nappy Bag Pattern altered just a wee bit and a changing pad of my own design. I'm not sure where the fabric is from but I had yards of it so I'm thinking it was a jewel of a thrift store find.

The Library Bag

I have always loved the library. Being homeschooled as a child meant that my siblings and I had the library to ourselves during the day. I looked forward to our bi-weekly walk to the library even when it was hot out, which in my opinion is anything over 73 degrees, nothing could keep me from the library. They have countless books and keep the air conditioner blasting, amazing. I never really looked forward to the walk home with my heavy load of books, although mom usually brought us a bag to carry them in. I now take trips to the Library with my little boy and he's become quite the "I can do it myself" -er and all of this got me to thinking about Library bags! I would have killed for one of these as a child, such independence - one pocket for your card and one for you money (for fines) and you can comfortably carry your own literary treasures. If you have a budding library enthusiast or know of one send them the link to my etsy shop!
